SUBMISSION IDEAS & EXPANDED GUIDELINESThe Junior Dispatch is always eager to take your children's submissions, and here's where we'll give you some ideas on doing so.
Who can submit items? Let's clear up one major misconception: JuniorDispatch.com is happy to take submissions from parents, grandparents, scout groups, sports teams, art clubs, church groups, babysitters, daycare facilities and just about anyone else. Teachers, our initial main source of contributions, are also encouraged to submit.
What can be submitted? Art. Stories. Poems. Reviews. Videos. Audio. Comics. Sports reports. Recipes. Activity reports. See below for descriptions of each of these.
When can items be submitted? We take items all year. We'll even take Christmas items in July if you're willing to send them in.

Kid Appropriate: All submitted material MUST be kid appropriate. JuniorDispatch.com rejects submissions as it sees fit.
Kid Generated: All submitted items should be created by a kid. It's OK for an adult to help in the actual act of submitting, but we want the work itself to be kid generated.
More on Art: Submit any kind of art you want to. If it's a drawing, photo, painting or cut-and-paste project, just scan it in (around 300 pixels wide) and send it to juniordispatch@yorkdispatch.com. If it's a sculpture or other 3D object, take a picture and send it in. If you don't have a scanner or digital camera, you can mail the art to us at the above address. Art can also be submitted through the
J.D. Art Pad too.
More on Stories (and all text submissions): Stories can be any length and about any kid-appropriate subject. E-mailed stories are preferred, but submissions by regular mail are accepted. Stories should be typed. Stories may also be submitted through
Submit A Story, but please note that registration is required.
More on Poems: Poems can be any length and in any "poem format," that is we'll take limericks, acrostics, Haiku or anything else that's deemed a poem.
More on Reviews: Kids have opinions, and we want to hear them. They can write, draw or record their review. When you review an item, be sure to offer the full name of the reviewed subject and some basic details, such as who created the reviewed item and where someone can find it. What should be reviewed? Anything! Books, movies, TV shows, Internet videos, comics, toys, clothes, the school play, songs and food are all good things to review.
More on Video and Audio: Since JuniorDispatch.com is a fancy Web site and all, we ought to keep up with the latest trends. With that in mind, we'll happily take your submissions of videos, podcasts and whatever else you come up with. More on Comics: JuniorDispatch.com loves comics and comic strips. We want you to create your own. It can be a single panel or a whole long story. It can be color or black-and-white. It can be computer generated or hand-drawn. Submit your comic as you would any other piece of art, which we explain above.
More on Sports Stories: Little League, soccer, karate, gymnastics and all the other sports out there are big around here. We want to see submissions about your activities. Tell us how your game went, what it took to get your next belt, or report on your meet. Just write it up and send it in. Video and audio accounts are also welcome, just see our entry above on that. Be sure to include the date and place of the event.
Note to coaches/instructors: Items for Sports Stories can be created by you, which is a exception to our content rule.
More on Recipes: JuniorDispatch.com currently hosts a few kid-friendly recipes at our
Top Secret Recipe page. We'd like more, so if you have a favorite kid-friendly dish, send it in. Please double-check your recipe for accuracy. We would also appreciate pictures of the process and completed recipe, but that's not required. See our "More on Art" section above for more information on submitting a photo.
More on Activity Reports: The school play, an outing to the zoo, special in-class projects, fundraiser outcomes, badge activities, concert wrapups can all be reported on JuniorDispatch.com. Simply put, we want to see submissions about your activities. Tell us how your activity went and what it took to get done. Just write it up and send it in. Video and audio accounts are also welcome, just see our entry above on that. Be sure to include the date and place of the activity.

GET YOUR WATER BOTTLE! The Reward for participation: Each child who contributes at least one item to JuniorDispatch.com earns a Junior Dispatch water bottle. Children can earn only one water bottle in the 2009-2010 school year. Students who contribute through their class will have bottles delivered there. Those that contribute directly online must pick up their bottle at The York Dispatch’s office at 205 N. George St. in York.

IDITAROD
In
March 2009 and again in
2010, the Junior Dispatch covered the
Iditarod! Just like our "Life of Lincoln" package, we updated readers on the race, and provided some unique learning opportunities for youngsters. At the same time, the JD gave readers in 2009 a chance to read -- and hear -- Jack London's classic novel
"The Call of the Wild." In 2010, we offered London's
"White Fang."In 2011, we plan on selecting one or more of these stories to feature:

SUBMIT STORIES & ARTThe Junior Dispatch has switched to a Web-only format.
We will accept items throughout the year. There is no limit to the number of items submitted by each teacher or parent/guardian, but all entries must be the original work of students and will be subject to editing.
