"Groundhogs" disagree on length of winter
CARL LINDQUIST, The York Dispatch

Topic: Great Big World

Bill Kalina, The York DispatchOnly time will tell whether Dover Doug or Poor Richard got it right.

The two local prognosticating “groundhogs” disagreed Monday morning on whether we’ll muddle through six more weeks of winter or whether an early spring is on its way.

Doug “felt it in his bones” that an early spring is coming, said Kristal Narkiewicz, his assistant. Richard, like Punxsutawney Phil, predicted six more weeks of winter.

An incoming winter storm bodes well for the latter prophecy. Up to four inches of snow is expected to fall in York County Monday and Tuesday.

Nonetheless, Dover Doug is confident his clairvoyance will play out as the weeks go by.

Doug, a person in a costume, made his prediction at Dover Community Park. Richard, a dead stuffed groundhog, offered his forecast at the Elks Lodge on North George Street in York City.
