2009 Submission Guidelines Posted on Wednesday, October 14 @ 07:35:09 CDT Topic: Site News | Juniordispatch.com, a Web site hosted by The York Dispatch, is looking for contributions from York County students.
All teachers of public, private and home-school students in
kindergarten through ninth grade may submit their students’ work — news
articles, editorials, stories, riddles, poems (any form) and artwork —
for online publication. The work may be prepared in or out of class,
but should be authorized by a teacher, parent, caregiver or classroom
representative.
Written articles: All entries should be e-mailed. The
student’s first and last name should be at the top of each article.
Teachers should include an information paragraph regarding the topic of
the material, the school, the district and the grade. Home-school
teachers need to include the municipality of the classroom, the grade
and the story topic.
Students can also submit stories directly on the Web site under the “Submit A Story” button.
Artwork: Teachers may e-mail color pictures in jpeg
format. For those sent through the postal service, drawings on
standard-size paper will be accepted. The student’s name, school and
grade need to be neatly printed on the back of the picture.
Art that features weather events and holidays may be printed in The York Dispatch’s daily Weather Art feature.
Students can also use the Web site’s Art Pad to draw and submit online.
Online features: Aside from student submissions,
juniordispatch.com offers students, teachers and caregivers a current
events blog, a “U in the News” featuring the achievements of local
students, kid-friendly recipes, a calendar featuring local children’s
events, video games and several special events throughout the year.
Last year, for example, juniordispatch.com offered full coverage of
the 2009 Iditarod and a look back at the life of Abraham Lincoln. Registration: Some online features require
registration. Teachers and caregivers can use one log on for their
entire class if so desired.
Reward for participation: Each child who contributes
at least one item to JuniorDispatch.com earns a Junior Dispatch water
bottle. Children can earn only one water bottle in the 2009-2010 school
year. Students who contribute through their class will have bottles
delivered there. Those that contribute directly online must pick up
their bottle at The York Dispatch’s office at 205 N. George St. in York.
Where to send items: E-mail submissions to juniordispatch@yorkdispatch.com.
Pictures (color preferred) may be mailed to The Junior Dispatch, 205 N.
George St., P.O. Box 2807, York PA 17405.
