'Lion, Witch, Wardrobe' opens Feb. 19 at DreamWrights Posted on Friday, February 05 @ 06:46:43 CST Topic: Healthy/Happy | "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" opens live on stage Feb. 19 and runs
through Feb. 28 at DreamWrights Theatre, 100 Carlisle Ave., York.
Joseph Robinette adapted
the play from the classic tale by C.S. Lewis. Siblings Peter, Susan, Edmund and
Lucy stumble through the back of an old wardrobe and find themselves in Narnia
where they are recruited to fulfill a prophecy and help the mighty lion, Aslan,
free the kingdom from the icy grip of the white witch. This popular
story drew the largest audition turnout in DreamWrights’ history when 236
aspiring cast and crew members turned out in December. Sixty actors were selected
to create two complete casts of 30. Another 35 are serving as members of the
crew, and 28 staff members fill positions as stage managers, producers, food
coordinators, and more. Allen Brenner has designed and created an
amazing set for this production. The audience will be treated to an abandoned
castle in the ruins of Narnia. Icicles adorn the columns and fallen arches,
truly conveying the feeling of a frozen kingdom. Allen’s technique for creating
the icicles is surprisingly simple and effective and audience members will find
it hard to believe they are made of recycled bubble wrap with packing tape &
plastic wrap. Artist Carol Oldenburg is creating a large mural that will
greet the audience as they enter the theatre through a wardrobe. The mural is
Oldenburg’s interpretation of continuous winter and is the first of four murals
that will be created by guest artists for each of the 2010 mainstage shows at
DreamWrights. Tickets are on sale now for this all-ages production.
General admission seating is available for $8 and limited reserved seating is
available for $12. Performance times are 6:30 p.m., with 2:30 p.m. matinees on weekends. For younger children, a Playlet and Breakfast will be held at 9 a.m. Feb. 27. Tickets

appropriate scene from the play, a chance to be on stage, and time for
autographs and pictures with the cast. Advance tickets are required. Tickets may be purchased at the theatre's box office weekdays from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. or
